I'm sorry for your tragic loss. I hope this informative memorial helps get some attention to the issue of drunk driving. As a psych nurse, I see so many repeat offenders trying to get a psych diagnosis to beat their charges and unfortunately suceeding.
My name is Lisa. I am 23 years old and when I was a senior in high school we had to do a senior project and my project happened to be on drunk driving. It saddens me to hear about young people or anyone for that matter having theur lives taken away because someone was so careless to frink and drive. This story hit home a little because I have a brother that is the same age as Rachel and I can not bear to think of anything like this happening to him. May god bless Rachel and her family.
I pray for you Rachel and your family. I am overwhelmed by the statistics concerning DUI. The percentage of drunk driving will decrease with change. I believe change is already being made with all these orginzations preventing people from drunk driving and other destructive decsions.

I am so sorry for your loss. In 1995 I was the driver who which was drunk that killed a 16 year old girl. My heart feels for her family and friends everyday. I want to speak to kids at school about how this just doesn't effect 1 person. I want and need to talk to others.

While i was studying up on this very important matter i found your daughters story and i must say i am touched and very sorry for your lost. HI....I am truly sorry for your loss. It is always hard to lose a love one especially in a situation like this. I was involved in a car accident this past weekend. I was driving with my brother to work when this other driver sped around the turn, lost control of his vehicle and slammed into us head on. My brother and I escaped with minor injuries. However, the driver of the vehicle died at the scene. Speed and Alcohol were contributing factors in the accident. I know it wasnt my fault but I just cant shake this feeling away. If it wasnt for my cars airbags, we both would have been seriously injured or even killed. God bless you all.

On October 26, 2008, my niece, MEGHANN MARIE SMITH age 18 was killed by Catherine Roberts, Oak Ridge High School Teacher, Conroe, TX, DRUNK DRIVER. While broke down on the side of the road changing a flat tire with her boyfriend, Mrs. Roberts drove right into the teens. Lance sustained minor injuries but poor Meghann died on impact. The driver pulled over and stumbled out of her vehicle to ask what his her car assuming it was a deer or something. When she was told she ran over my niece, Mrs. Roberts fled the scene not knowing if Meghann was alive in need of immediate medical care or not. Luckily Lance reported the license plate number to the 911 dispatcher so Mrs. Roberts was arrested. The laws HAVE TO CHANGE on DWI fatality cases to include no-bond jail time, not eligible for lesser charge or probated sentence, etc. My heart goes out to poor Rachel's family and friends. I feel your pain!!!
