This story is sad and hard to think about. I am 18 years old and have lost friends to drunk driving. I have never drank and never will. I want to help in any waypossble to keep DUI's to a minimum in lower Alabama
I am Jr. High Health Teacher and I want you to know that your story made my students think seriously on the consequences of DUI. thank you for sharing this with us and help young people to value the gift of life. Best Regards. Virgilio 'Vick' Peña Monterrey, Mexico
I am so greatly sorry for your loss and may the Lord continue to help you all get through this ordeal
I'm so sorry for the lost to your family, only the Lord Jesus can heal your pain. Jan. 2002 all three of our kids were hit head on in a car accident. The other driver was on marijuana. Bethany 17, Luke 12, Ethan 9, they all servived. Bethany still goes to doctors today, Luke is an amputee, he loss his right leg, Ethan is a traumatic brain injury surviver. The young man who caused the accident was facing 12 to 14 yrs. prison time. We as a family had the last say, we chose to get him into a drug rehab program. Forgiveness is hard, but it is part of the healing prosses. Thank you for sharing your story, I know it will save lives. We have been speaking in schools about drugs drinking and driving, it has helped us as we share.
I heard about this story a while ago and it really got to me, you don't even have to know Rachel to understand that she was good person with a bright future, and to have all her qualities, all her potential taken away by someone who won't even accept what she has done to your family. A cowardly, self absorbed person, hope she is found very soon.
I am so sorry for the loss of Rachel. I am currently trying to get custody of my twin daughters from my ex husband who has a dwi conviction and now a recent arrest for dwi. States have got to do more to protect our children. Much more. I hope Elva Diaz is found and appropriately punished.
I'M SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS
So sad how no one stops to think before they drive. I have been sober over 8 years and by the grace of GOD I never killed anyone. I am in college to become a probation officer and help others to become better people. God bless your family.
rachel seems lika great personn..and i am very sorry for your lost. MAy your family be blessed..This page reeal real touches my heart. God Bless!
I know its been a while, I am sorry for that. Just big changes with work. I have been thinking about you all the time, you are always in my thoughts! you are so greatly missed and forever loved. 🙂
When are our lawmakers going to wake up and pass a NO TOLERANCE law. NO drinking at ALL while driving. Period. You have alcohol in your system in your car while driving, jail. Jail is a GREAT deterent - believe me. I work in a prosecutor's office and they will do ANYTHING not to go to jail once caught. My former bf was killed in '93 by a drunk. I have no tolerance whatsoever for this. My heart breaks for you!
I happened upon this site while doing a project for my ethics class. I was deeply saddend to read the stories. My husband and I have a pact with each other; if one wants to have a drink or two, the other one has a coke and drives. To us it is a "no brainer" I hope someday everyone sees it that way. God bless the families left to deal with the sorrow.
My heart is heavy for this tragedy
I have a granddaughter born on the same day and year as Rachel. My heart hurts for her and her family.
as a recovering addict, I have seen and heard of so many horror stories such as this. I am praying for you and God bless.
that is so sad to hear that!
My mom was killed by a drunk driver in 1983. She was 36, I was 7 and my sister was 3. The consequences of that accident linger to this day, and will be present for as long as we all live. My sister suffered permanent brain injuries. The drunk driver simply walked away, unharmed. I'm currently doing an essay on this issue for college and ran into this story. I browsed through Rachel's pictures and as a mother of a 3 year old daughter, my heart just melted. There are absolutly no words to describe OUR loss. Through the years, our memories help us pull through. In our case, our religious beleives have helped us tremendously. God promises a resurection (John 5:28,29), in which we will reunite with our loved ones. Whatever your faith may be, just keep praying day and night and God will give you the strenght to pull through.
My 21 year old son had a friend who was killed by a drunk driver 2 years ago. He was only 19. We only know all too well the consequences this has on a family. I wish I could put you in contact with this family I know. It is in Texas. The Mother died this past February from cancer but I also think of a broken heart from her son being killed by a drunk driver.
