It is still just so very heartbreakingly sad. I know Lyssie misses her best friend each and every day. Nothing can change that, but justice might make the pain a little bit easier to bear as time passes. And if someone is protected from injury because the suspect is in custody, Rachel would be very glad about that.

My prayers are with you. My heart aches to hear of young adults passing at the hands of a drunk driver. I am glad that the driver was caught and hope that the results will give some comfort to the family.

Dear Steve, Jill and Erik, I'm a friend of Lando's and have been following Rachel's story. I am very pleased to know that Elva has been caught. I think of your family and Rachel often and I wanted to let you know that I have been praying and sending healing thoughts your way. Many healing thoughts as the trial progresses. There are many, many people thinking of you and Rachel is very loved.

My son, James, and my daughter, Catharine, participated in Every 15 Minutes at Paradise High this year. I heard Rachel's mom speak at the assembly and was so moved by Rachel's story. When I read in the paper this morning that the driver that killed Rachel has been caught I was overjoyed. I shared the news with my kids and they are also thrilled. I know it doesn't change your heartache but this woman will not be able to rip apart another family the way she did yours. God Bless you and your family.

I share in your loss. My wife of 53 years died last month 8 years after being hit by a drunk driver. The judge told him, as my wife sat in a wheel chair, unable to speak, walk, feed herself, none of the things we take for granted, that he should be glad he didn't kill her. He was sentenced to 12 months. He did kill her, it just took her 8 years to die. I'm so sorry you lost your 18 year old daughter. We must do something to stop this slaughter on our highways.

Steve, Jill and Erik I am so grateful that the Lord has answered your prayers in wanting Elva Diaz to take responsibility for her actions which caused Rachel's death. I am now even more confident that her capture and punishment will reach many people in understanding the horrific damage of Drunk Driving. I pray one day everyone will realize driving after even one drink could cause such damage and always find another way to get home.

So glad that Elva has been caught. I think of Rachel everyday, and have been waiting for this day!! I know that nothing will bring Rachel, but now Elva will pay for her actions on that February evening. Rachel is so greatly missed by everyone who knows her and even some who didn't have the chance to meet her!

Dear Steve and Jill, We are so sorry about the loss of your daughter, Rachel. She is so beautiful!!! I am sure she was just as beautiful on the inside. Her smile exudes love. You are wonderful parents. We don't know why things like this happen. It does seem like the most lovable and precious are taken away early. Please know that we will be praying for you constantly. We will have our prayer group pray that Elva Diaz turns herself in, or is caught soon. God Bless you both. Please send our love to your mom and dad too.

I'm so sorry this tragedy ever happened. It's so wrong. The only people who deserve to die that way are the drunks/drugged drivers, but unfortunately it's the innocent ones who so many times have to pay for mistakes made by other people who have to learn the hard way if they even ever learn. I'm still going ask God someday why ... Rest In Peace Rachel and may the Lord comfort all of our hearts that have been broken and hurt because of sin.

Im sorry for your loss. i couldnt even imagine if my brother had died when he was hit by a drunk driver. this such a major epidemic among our society. My little brother at the age of 15 was in a school area and a lawyer at 10am hit him and pinned him under another car and almost killed my mother as well. At least you guys have been able to get the word out before more of our youth die over others stupidity.
